General tips about the lamp

  • If the lamp cover is not properly attached, the lamp may not work or the device may not start.
  • Do not touch the glass surface of the lamp with bare hands and be careful not to bump or scratch the lamp anywhere. This prevents damage to your lamp.

Tips for lamp life

  • Always use the lamp-friendly Eco mode.
  • Never cover the cooling air slots (not even in shelf walls, so that they are covered).
  • Clean the air filters regularly.
  • Do not turn your projector on and off unnecessarily. Do not switch it off during the start-up phase. Avoid using the lamp for short periods (such as watching News), otherwise the lamp will fail well before the service life specified by the manufacturer.
  • When turning off the power, do not disconnect the projector directly from the power supply, but wait until the fan stops automatically (exceptions are projectors with direct power off function).
  • Do not subject the projector to shocks (especially when hot).

Danger: Mercury!

If you have come into contact with mercury due to a lamp breaking, please observe the following rules:

  • If your lamp is broken in a luminaire, immediately disconnect the luminaire from the power supply. This will prevent electric shocks.
  • Children should leave the room immediately as mercury is spreading at ground level.
  • Afterwards you should ventilate the room for at least 15 minutes.
  • After the room has been ventilated, collect all parts of the broken lamp in a tight container (jar, plastic bag,...) and close the container tightly. It is best to put on disposable or household gloves to collect the broken glass in order to avoid cuts on the broken glass.
  • Dispose of the container at the nearest collection point for old lamps. In the meantime, you should store the container outdoors if possible.
  • Then carefully wipe the floor twice with a damp disposable household cloth.

Broken lamp on the carpet / carpeting

Beamer lamps contain little mercury, so it is recommended to keep calm even when the lamp bursts or explodes. Lamps build up a pressure of up to 200 bar in the lamp bulb, which means that the lamp can burst.

We recommend quickly implementing the following rules of conduct for a lamp burst:

  • Disconnect the device from the power cable.
  • Open a window and ventilate the room for at least 20 minutes.
  • Do not touch anything without rubber gloves, avoid contact with splinters or parts containing mercury.
  • Do not walk over contaminated ground, prevent carry-over.
  • Everyone should leave the room.
  • Separate uninvolved rooms so that the air cannot draw into them.
  • If possible, after ventilation, place the device outside and let it ventilate further.
  • The projector's ventilation system can emit fine glass splinters into the room after the explosion, which may also contain mercury, so the following cleaning operations should be performed.

Cleaning of smooth surfaces:
Sweep up splinters, maybe on a box you can throw away with. Then wipe the floor and other surfaces twice with disposable wipes.

Cleaning of carpets:
Vacuum only the inside of the carpet, if external treatment is not possible, leave the window open and position the exhaust air from the vacuum cleaner as close to the window as possible. This ensures that the exhaust air from the vacuum cleaner is discharged from the room as far as possible, as it may contain mercury. Place a damp cloth over the air outlet of the vacuum cleaner to prevent mercury from escaping from the appliance. We recommend to treat the area at least twice. If possible, let the vacuum cleaner run outdoors for 5 minutes. When cleaning is complete, clean the vacuum cleaner nozzle and the air outlet. You should throw the dust bag away. With bagless vacuum cleaners it is recommended to clean the interior of the vacuum cleaner.

Use a flashlight to check all contaminated areas to make sure everything is clean.

Throw glass splinters, cleaning cloths, vacuum cleaner bags into an airtight waste bag or safe container and dispose of them immediately at a recycling centre, always keep the waste closed and outside your living area. Please use several garbage bags, so that one and the same bag is not opened again and again.

Note the following general notes:
Mercury vapor should not be inhaled. A lamp is very hot in operation and the mercury is gaseous in operation. Thus, immediately after the lamp bursts, the mercury will be mostly in gaseous form in the air, so direct ventilation is the first measure. Nevertheless, there may be liquid mercury residues on the glass splinters, so it is best not to touch them and to dispose of them immediately in a sealable bag.
